About the Author

My name is Jill Thomas and I was born in the beautiful county of Pembrokeshire. I lived in the small town of Tenby where I could swim when ever I wanted to during the summer months, the beach was our playground and we shared it with the many visitors who came to our town for holidays.

From a young age I was always interested in words and stories. Of course, in those days we did not have television or computers. We did have radios and there were programmes especially for children, but we had to use our imagination as we listened. There were books and stories that we could read. The weather was not always sunny and on those days we had to stay in doors. Sometimes when we could not go out I used to enjoy writing little stories just for fun. Writing is such a wonderful thing to do, for it gives us opportunities to use our imagination, tell other people what we feel and think in a way that perhaps we would not say. The pen is a window to your thoughts. My Mum was very good at making up interesting stories, she would tell them to my sister and I, but if she changed the details we would say. “ That’s not what you said last time,” so, she would have to remember what she had said before.

When I grew up, I trained as a teacher and I got married. I then had a family of my own and it was a very busy time looking after four children and teaching as well. I didn’t have time to write any stories until my children had grown up . Then I started to write. I enjoyed writing the stories and I was inspired by the area around Castle Coch , which is where my husband is from , and also Tenby which was where I grew up. I also wrote stories for younger children, looking at nature and the wonderful world we live in.
